How to Reach Haridwar by Air

Haridwar does not have its own airport. To reach Haridwar your best bet is to take a flight to Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport. This is a domestic airport and around 20 km from the city center. The distance between Haridwar and Dehradun is 52 km and taxis are easily available from the airport. It takes less than two hours and the route takes you through the Ambala – Dehradun- Haridwar road, via the NH7 and NH34. 

Delhi Airport is 200 km away from Haridwar. Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport is the busiest airport in India and has constant traffic of both national and international carriers. Transport from the airport is easily available making it very accessible for tourists to pay a visit to Haridwar.

How to Reach Haridwar by Railways

Haridwar has its own station. The Haridwar Junction Railway Station is well connected by train, with frequent trains to Delhi, which takes four to five hours; Dehradun takes one hour and Rishikesh takes around one hour too. 

Haridwar Junction Railway station is located on the south side of town, within walking distance to most hotels but a 2-km hike to Hari-ki-Pauri – a famous Ghat in Haridwar

How to Reach Haridwar by Road

Bus - A number of state transport and private buses connect Haridwar with Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and other parts of Uttarakhand. Bus services are easily available, as the frequency is good and fares are economical. The bus station in Haridwar is very close to the train station. Do note, that buses are known to run late.

The best way to book a bus ticket in Haridwar is to get in touch with the Bus operators and have your tickets booked. It is advisable to check the bus condition before booking. Always go for cushioned and push-back seats. The long and bumpy ride will take a toll on your mood and body. The bus service provider may consider your request and book seats as per your request but this usually subject to availability. In case of cancellation, depending on the policy of the company you may get a refund if you have a change in travel plans. During season time there is a shortage of AC buses so always go way in advance to the bus stop before your suitable travel time and get a prior reservation.
